Renewal of the traffic lights on another section of Leipziger Straße completed

Public transport acceleration is being implemented - EU funding programme for the urban traffic management system

Today, a further section of the traffic management system with a total of four additional traffic lights between Leipziger/Louis-Otto-Straße and Leipziger/Glauchauer Straße is being put into operation with the Leipziger/Bürgerstraße traffic lights. The aim of the measure is to speed up bus route 21 on Leipziger Straße. The first section of the route with four traffic lights between Leipziger/Donauwörther Strasse and Leipziger/Bornaer Strasse was completed in December 2014.

The traffic lights for the second section were realised by the Leipzig branch of Swarco Traffic Systems. The construction costs for this totalled 154,000 euros. The final section on Leipziger Straße with three traffic lights in the section between Leipziger/Winklerstraße and Leipziger/Hartmannstraße is due to go into operation before Easter. The new right-turn lane from Hartmannstrasse to Leipziger Strasse has already been open to traffic for a few days.

Since the beginning of 2012, the city of Chemnitz has been implementing an EU funding programme to expand the city's traffic management system. The programme focuses primarily on measures to speed up local public transport. For the overall project, which has an estimated budget of €3.8 million, the European Union is providing grants totalling €2.65 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The programme is due to be completed in the summer.
