Renewal of Leipziger Straße carriageway between A4 motorway bridge and Nordstraße

At its meeting today, the city council approved the renewal of the Leipziger Straße carriageway out of town between the A4 motorway bridge and the junction with Nordstraße, subject to the provision of the requested funding.

Both carriageways will be repaired, the road drainage system renewed and the pavement between Ringstrasse and Wildparkstrasse extended. In order to minimise the impact on traffic, the construction work will be carried out in three phases. The construction work is scheduled to begin on 10 July and be completed by the end of October. Traffic will be routed partly via the Chemnitz Centre. One lane will be available in each direction. The costs amount to 682,000 euros. Of this, 545,400 euros in funding is planned.

In the first section, the upper asphalt layer of Leipziger Straße will be replaced in the area of the A4 motorway bridge and Ringstraße, and the entire asphalt pavement will be replaced in some sections. This is due to severe chipping, network cracks and rutting in the area.

In the second section between Ringstrasse and Wildparkstrasse, the road drainage is being renewed. The so-called box gutter is broken due to the high traffic load. As the concrete kerbs also need to be renewed, a new variant is preferred: kerbs with an integrated drainage channel. In this context, the existing pavement out of town will be renewed and provided with uniform asphalt. The carriageway at Ringstrasse will also be renovated in the second section. This area is also characterised by severe chipping, cracks in the network and rutting.

In the third section, the Nordstraße junction, the asphalt pavement will also be completely replaced. The road drainage system will also be renewed here.
