Admission is free of charge.
The historian Dr Jürgen Nitsche and the teacher Anna Schüller from the Geschichtswerkstatt Sachsenburg e. V. will present and discuss the many aspects of Karl Otto's biography, his commitment to coming to terms with the history of the Sachsenburg concentration camp and the possibilities of commemorating him. The occasion is the anniversary of Otto's death on 18 October.
Karl Otto was a well-known writer and cultural politician from Chemnitz. He campaigned for the commemoration of the early Sachsenburg concentration camp with the publication of the brochure "Das Lied von Sachsenburg". During intensive research into his estate in the Chemnitz city archives, historian Jürgen Nitsche uncovered astonishing aspects of his biography. For example, Karl Otto was in correspondence with Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and hosted a reading with Stefan Heym in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1965.
Like the history of the Sachsenburg concentration camp, Karl Otto's biography has been largely forgotten by the people of Chemnitz.
