Reichenbrand school is 100 years old

Reichenbrand primary and secondary school is celebrating the 100th birthday of its school building today. Mayor Barbara Ludwig congratulates the school and will give a speech at the celebratory event in the Haus des Gastes in the evening: "I feel very fortunate to find both tradition and much promise for the future in this place. I would like to congratulate the headmistresses, teachers and all the pupils who bring this traditional school to life."

History of the school:
The Reichenbrand school was opened on 12 August 1912 after the number of pupils in Reichenbrand steadily increased. A further extension was added in the 1950s. From 1983 to 1992, the school was called Sepp-Wenig-Schule.
Former pupils include Dietmar Mothes, President of the Chemnitz Chamber of Crafts, Prof Thomas Geßner, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute ENAS and swimming coach Ute Schinkitz.

The Reichenbrand primary and secondary school is one of the buildings to benefit from the school building construction programme over the next two years. The city council decided to renovate the roof, façade and part of the interior for 2.9 million euros. Over the next two years, a total of around 40 million euros will be available for school refurbishment in the city of Chemnitz, of which the city will contribute just under 24 million euros. The school's auditorium is currently being renovated in line with its listed status at a cost of 1.4 million euros. In previous years, the after-school care centre was remodelled, fire doors installed, corridors renovated and the boiler replaced.

The school bears the title "School against Racism / School with Courage" and has 480 pupils in primary and secondary school.
