Registrations at secondary schools and grammar schools until possible until 7 March
Education recommendation will be issued on 28 February
This year, pupils in year four will receive their educational recommendation from their primary school on 28 February. This is the prerequisite for registering the child at a secondary school. Registration at a secondary school or grammar school is possible until 7 March 2018. The admission letter will be issued by the respective school by 24 May.
The admission requirement for enrolment at a grammar school is the educational recommendation for the grammar school. This is issued if the average grade in maths, German and general studies is 2.0 or better.
Following a new regulation in Saxony last year, the educational recommendation is now only of an indicative nature. This means that parents can register their child at a grammar school of their choice until 7 March 2018, even without a grammar school recommendation. The children will then take part in a written assessment on 8 March 2018. The tasks are created centrally and take into account the subjects German, maths and general studies, which are decisive for the educational recommendation. In the period from 9 to 20 March 2018, a mandatory counselling interview will be held with the parents at the desired grammar school. Failure to attend the counselling interview counts as a withdrawal of the application for admission to a grammar school.
A decision on possible admission is made in this counselling interview. In addition to the educational recommendation, the decision criteria are the last school report and the written performance assessment. If the recommendation is nevertheless made in favour of the grammar school, the parents can inform the school in writing within a period of two weeks that they wish to maintain their enrolment at the grammar school. The headmaster then has the final authority to decide on the child's admission.
The following documents are required for enrolment:
- Enrolment form (indication of second and third preference urgently required)
- Copy of the half-year information
- Original or certified copy of the child's birth certificate
- Original educational recommendation
