Registration of first-year pupils for the 2019/2020 school year
On 21 and 22 August 2018, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the desired municipal primary school
Children born between 1 July 2012 and 30 June 2013 will be required to attend school at the start of the 2019/2020 school year. Registration will take place on 21 and 22 August 2018, from 2 pm to 6 pm, at the desired municipal primary school in the relevant school district. The currently valid statutes of the City of Chemnitz for the determination of school districts at primary schools can be viewed HERE.
The presence of a custodial parent who must present the following documents is sufficient for enrolment:
- fully completed registration form( availableHERE )
- Identity card of the registering parent
- Birth certificate of the child starting school
- for sole custody: proof required
Please note the relocation of the Borna primary school to Wittgensdorfer Straße 121a, 09114 Chemnitz (former school for the physically disabled) and the relocation of the E.-G.-Flemming primary school to the main building at Albert-Schweitzer-Straße 61, 09116 Chemnitz.

Frequently asked questions
What happens if I don't turn up on these two days?
Parents who are unable to attend the school enrolment appointment should contact the primary school of their choice in the relevant school district and arrange another appointment there.
Do independent schools have different enrolment dates?
Enrolment must take place exclusively at a municipal primary school. Parents who would like to enrol their child at an independent primary school must also register their child at the desired independent primary school.
As a resident of Kaßberg, for example, can I also enrol my child in Schönau?
If you wish to enrol your child outside the school district, you must submit an informal, but justified, exception request to the desired primary school by 15 February 2019 at the latest after registering your child at a primary school in the relevant school district.
Do I need a declaration of consent from the other parent who is not present?
The enrolment form must be signed by both parents if there is joint custody. In the case of sole custody, proof of this is required.
