Regional competition "Jugend musiziert" starts

Municipal Music School: Young musicians perform from 30 January to 1 February - Prizewinners' concert on 8 March, 4 p.m., Concert Hall, Municipal Music School

From Friday to Sunday, 30 January to 1 February, the 35th Chemnitz regional competition "Jugend musiziert" will take place at several venues. It is organised by the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and financially supported by Sparkasse Chemnitz. Once again, young, talented singers and instrumentalists will face a musical comparison.

The competitions begin on Friday, 30 January, with the "Chamber Music for String Instruments" category in Chemnitz. On Saturday, 31 January, the categories "Accordion chamber music" (Flöha, morning), "Harp solo" (Flöha, noon) and "Piano solo" (Chemnitz, all day) are on the programme. On Sunday, 1 February, the participants will put their skills to the test in "Chamber music for wind instruments" (Annaberg-Buchholz, morning) as well as "Piano solo" and "Vocal solo" (both Chemnitz, morning).

A total of 110 musicians are taking part in the Chemnitz regional competition in 68 categories. The musicians are between 6 and 21 years old. Judges from all over Saxony will assess the entries.

Further regional competitions will take place in Zwickau, Leipzig and Dresden. Schedules and venues are available at www.jugend-musiziert.org. The results will also be published there.


Prizewinners' concert

On Sunday, 8 March at 4 pm, all music lovers are invited to the prizewinners' concert in the concert hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. The most successful entries will be presented there. Admission is free.
