Refurbishment of the Rosa Luxemburg primary school completed

Invitation to the photo session: Symbolic handover of the keys on Monday, 7 August, 7.45 a.m.

With the start of the 2017/2018 school year, the Rosa-Luxemburg-Grundschule is once again turning over textbooks and solving maths problems. The almost two-year (21-month) complete refurbishment of the building on Brühl has been completed. The work began in November 2015. The cost of the refurbishment totalled around 2.2 million euros. 870,000 euros were paid in subsidies.

On the first day of school, 7 August, at 7.45 a.m. for the first lesson, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will symbolically hand over the key to Headmistress Renate Demuth. The meeting point is the main entrance to the school on the Brühl. Media representatives are cordially invited to attend.

The complete refurbishment of the building included the renovation of the yellow clinker brick façade visible from the outside, with its many sandstone decorations, as well as carpentry work and the renewal of ceilings, floors and walls. The historic tiles in the corridors and the granite steps in the stairwell were largely preserved. The entrance door was reconstructed true to the original using old photos. In addition, the building was drained, the interior fittings were realised and the entire building services and electrical installations were renewed. Following the complete refurbishment, the primary school pupils can now look forward to modern classrooms. The staircase and sanitary facilities had already been renovated in a previous project.

Together with the newly designed Brühl, an attractive area has been created around the renovated Rosa Luxemburg primary school, which impressively defines and at the same time enhances the school building.

Event information: The building, which was erected in 1882/83, is celebrating its 135th anniversary with a festival from 25 to 28 September.
