Refurbishment of Georg-Weerth-Oberschule sports hall
At its meeting today, the city council decided to renovate the sports hall at Georg-Weerth-Oberschule, subject to funding approval. The costs amount to around 1.54 million euros (gross), of which 900,000 euros in funding has been applied for. The refurbishment of the sports hall is running in parallel with the work on the school building.
A disabled toilet with washing and shower facilities will be installed on the ground floor of the single-field sports hall, which was built in 1984. In addition, the staff room will be rearranged with a direct view of the sports hall. The sanitary facilities on the upper floor will be refurbished and access to the shower area will be relocated so that two shower areas are opposite each other.
External access to the sports hall will be barrier-free via a ramp. A second barrier-free escape route will also be added to the stairwell. A passageway from the sports hall to the new school extension will also be realised.
The façade will undergo energy-efficient refurbishment and the windows will be replaced. Both the building services, including the hall ceiling with radiant ceiling heating, and the electronic systems, including the hall lighting, will be renewed.
Construction is scheduled to start in July 2021 and be completed in July 2022.
