Rediscovering an old craft technique: mowing with a scythe
Adult education course on a meadow - on 4 July, from 9 am to 12 noon - BOOKED OUT
On Saturday, 4 July from 9 am to 12 noon, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to a course on how easy and relaxed mowing with a scythe can be. Participants will learn everything they need to know on a meadow in Burkhardtsdorf. The meeting point is Dorfweg 12 in 09235 Burkhardtsdorf. Participation costs 20.20 euros.

In the first part, participants will be taught the basics and learn about the different types of scything and how to adjust the scythe correctly. In the second part, practical exercises are carried out under the guidance of an experienced and recognised scythe instructor from the German and Austrian scythe associations. In addition, different types of scythes will be introduced, which also bring good results in difficult mowing situations and make the work easier. You are welcome to bring your own scythe. Please ensure that they are transported safely.
The ecological rethink among many people sometimes also leads to the desire to engage with old and tried and tested manual techniques. This includes mowing with a scythe. Enjoying a flowering meadow in early summer and then mowing the grass with your own scythe is not old-fashioned, but forward-looking. Because the meadow ecosystem can recover.
