Redesign of the play area in Küchwaldpark
Start of the landscaping work
Landscaping work began today on the new play area in Küchwaldpark. The redesign of the play area in Küchwaldpark is intended to supplement the existing play facilities and increase the attractiveness of Küchwaldpark.
The planned route extends from the park entrance at the festival meadow in the south-east (Küchwaldring/corner of Küchwaldstraße) to the park entrance above the ice rink in the north-west (edge of the forest). This should also make access to Küchwaldpark from the ice rink car park more attractive for visitors.
The new play mile will consist of individual themed stations with a variety of exercise options, which will be linked by selective, creative connecting elements without exercise options. These should be designed in such a way that they each act as a unit. The new facility takes on the forest-like character of the surroundings and will thus be integrated into the overall environment.
The overarching theme of the play area is "Microcosm Küchwaldpark" and interprets the flora and fauna of the forest in a diverse and creative way. The materials selected are natural, sustainable and durable. The preferred material is oak or larch wood. Woodchips are provided as necessary fall protection.
The landscaping work will begin with the partial demolition of existing but no longer safe play areas in the south-east. The individual pieces of play equipment still to be completed will be installed from the beginning of July 2018, when the two fountain jumpers in the existing "water" play area will also be replaced. The playground equipment in the mile was primarily selected for the six to twelve age group in accordance with the City of Chemnitz's playground concept.
The Küchwaldpark has the status of a cultural monument in its entirety as a forest park and is therefore protected by law.
The construction project is funded by the "Bridges to the Future" programme. The costs for the landscaping amount to 45,200 euros. The supply and installation of the play equipment will cost a total of 80,000 euros. Completion is planned for the end of August 2018.
The planning services were awarded to Kretzschmar & Partner, Dresden. The landscaping work will be carried out by Liebscher & Partner GmbH, Chemnitz. Hammer SHM GmbH, Kloster Lehnin, will supply and install the play equipment.
