Redesign of the Kochstraße/ Waldenburger Straße and Kochstraße/ Weststraße junctions

Start of construction on 12 October 2015

On 12 October 2015, reconstruction work will begin at the Waldenburger Straße/ Kochstraße/ Bodelschwinghstraße and Kochstraße/ Weststraße junctions .

The expansion situation of the existing junctions has shown that the alignment of the carriageways and carriageway edges, particularly at the offset junction of Waldenburger Straße/ Kochstraße/ Bodelschwinghstraße, does not meet the current requirements and the traffic flow is impaired.

The two construction sections are located directly adjacent to each other along Waldenburger Strasse, Kochstrasse and Weststrasse. This road is heavily frequented by local public transport. The bus/bus and bus/truck encounter situation often leads to conflicts.

The aim of the project is to improve the traffic flow and make it safer.

The main work will be carried out at the Waldenburger/ Kochstraße/ Bodelschwinghstraße junction. Here, the kerbs will be relocated accordingly and parts of the asphalt will be renewed. A crossing aid for pedestrians will be installed in the area of Waldenburger Strasse. The road boundaries at the Kochstraße/Weststraße junction will also be adapted.

Traffic at the junctions will be controlled by traffic lights during the construction work. Due to the expected disruptions, it is recommended to drive around the construction area.

A construction period of nine weeks is planned. The construction costs amount to approx. 130,000 euros. The project is being subsidised by the Free State of Saxony to the tune of 75 percent as part of the municipal road and bridge construction programme. The company VSTR from Rodewisch was commissioned with the realisation of the measure.
