Redesign of the foyer in the Tropical House completed

On Wednesday, 8 February at 11 a.m., the newly designed foyer of the Tropical House will be symbolically handed over to Chemnitz Zoo by the Friends of Chemnitz Zoo Association. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to this event. In addition to representatives of the Friends' Association and the zoo, the artist Tino Beck will also be present.
Over the past few months, the foyer of the tropical house has been busy with work. The artist has painstakingly redesigned the walls and ceiling. Visitors now have the impression of stepping into a South American landscape, surrounded by friendly colours and exotic shapes. The animal enclosures blend harmoniously into the overall picture.
A good three years ago, the zoo came up with the idea of redesigning the foyer and adding an aquarium and several terrariums to the long wall. Following construction work, the tanks were set up, planted and the animal inhabitants introduced. Naturally, this took the longest with the large freshwater aquarium, as the water values first had to be slowly adjusted and the aquatic plants had to grow before fish could be gradually introduced. There are currently nine South American species living in the aquarium and reptiles (corn snakes, Barbados anole and various geckos) in the terrariums.

The artistic design of the tropical house foyer was financed by the "Tierparkfreunde Chemnitz" e.V. association, as was the furnishing and stocking of the tanks. The interactive board on the subject of the rainforest, which has been in the foyer for some time, was also set up on the initiative of the Friends' Association.
In future, the anteroom to the tropical hall will be used more for events.
The first event will be a reading with Chemnitz author Jan Lipowski on 3 March 2017 at 6 pm. He will be presenting amusing, refreshing short stories from his works "Was du heute kannst entkorken, das verschiebe nicht auf morgen!" and "Rotweinlaune".
