Redesign of the Bahnhofstraße/Georgstraße traffic area - next stage in the implementation of the Chemnitz model starts on 12 March

Road users please note the necessary full closures on site and the diversion route until 30 November 20913

The implementation of the Chemnitz model is entering the next stage. The project is being sponsored by Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (VMS), which will implement this next stage of the Chemnitz model between 12 March and 30 November 2013. The entire road space and the pavement areas in the Bahnhofstraße/Georgstraße area will be redesigned and the track systems for the entrance to the main station building in Bahnhofstraße will be realised at the same time. In addition to the considerable amount of tree work involved in the project, new sewers and pipes will also have to be laid on site.

Notes from the traffic authority: The realisation of the extensive construction measures also requires a temporary full closure with signposted detours on Bahnhofstraße in the area between Carolastraße and Georgstraße as well as on Georgstraße in the area between Straße der Nationen and Bahnhofstraße (see also construction site information from 7 March 2013). During the construction period from 12 March to 30 November 2013, Bahnhofstraße and Georgstraße will be completely closed to road traffic from the exit from the station forecourt in the direction of the station building to Straße der Nationen. Road users should use the Bahnhofstraße / Carolastraße junction as an exit during the full closure. (Please also refer to the map in the appendix).

Access to Bahnhofstraße6 (main station, including station forecourt and car park) will be guaranteed during the construction work. Pedestrians commuting between Chemnitz main station and the bus station (in the area on Georgstraße/ Straße der Nationen) will be guided barrier-free through the construction site and along the cross platform building along Georgstraße - passers-by should follow the relevant signs on site.

Access to and from the multi-storey car park at the main station will be guaranteed via Minna-Simon-Straße, which will be signposted accordingly, as well as via Georgstraße.

Information for the media: You will receive a separate press release from the VMS(www.vms.de) regarding the construction measures to be implemented from 12 March 2013. In your publication, please also take into account the information already published yesterday by CVAG on the changed route of lines 23, 32 and N11 and the corresponding changes to the stops - www.cvag.de.
