Redesign of Martinstraße between Jakobstraße and Augustusburger Straße

At its meeting today, the city council decided to remodel Martinstraße between Jakobstraße and Augustusburger Straße. Martinstraße will be remodelled together with the new primary school building on southern Sonnenberg. Attention will be paid to a safe traffic system with a high quality of stay in the area. Additional flowering meadows are also to be planted.

Martinstrasse is being realised together with the Chemnitz waste disposal company (ESC). The ESC is renewing the worn drainage channel from Augustusburger Straße to Sonnenstraße in two sections. The existing 30 km/h zone and the cycle lane will be retained. The area will be made barrier-free. Benches, litter bins and bicycle stands will also be installed on the widened and paved footpaths. The flowering meadows with large chestnut trees will contribute to the high quality of the area.

The lighting will be brought up to the current state of the art. The traffic lights at the Augustusburger Straße/Martinstraße junction will be fitted with a signal for the blind.
Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2021. After a seven-month construction period, the traffic system should then be completed. The costs amount to around 560,000 euros, of which around 375,000 euros will be financed from urban development funds.
