Reconstruction of the old Zschopauer Straße from Bergfrieden to Hermersdorfer Straße begins

Next Wednesday, work will begin on the reconstruction of the old Zschopauer Straße from Bergfrieden to Hermersdorfer Straße.

The "old" Zschopauer Straße has lost its function as a main road due to the construction of the new B174 motorway and now functions as a local road. In order to meet the new traffic requirements, the road will be rebuilt accordingly and will have a one-sided pavement and lighting.

Between Walter-Janka Straße and Hermersdorfer Str., the approx. 8 metre wide road will be narrowed to 6.5 metres. The bus routes will remain on the "old" Zschopauer Straße in this section after completion. In future, the road will have a 1.5 m wide pavement on the left towards the countryside and an avenue of trees. Towards the city centre on Janka-Straße, the section up to Otto-Thörner-Straße will become a municipal road with a residential function. The width is reduced to 6.0 m up to about W.-Busch-Str. and then to 4.75 m with a pavement on one side.

The project is being carried out as a coordinated construction project with the waste disposal company and Eins. In addition to the road construction, gas and drinking water pipes, electricity cables, street lighting and wastewater pipes will also be laid. Services for Deutsche Telekom and Kabel Deutschland will also be carried out.

Work will begin with site installation, traffic safety measures and the preservation of evidence. Initial construction activities in the form of milling and excavation work are planned for the week commencing 4 August.

The construction work will be carried out in two sections: the first section from Bergfrieden to Walter-Janka-Straße including 150 metres of sewage and gas pipe in W.-Busch-Straße as a preliminary work for the expansion of this street from 2016. The second section begins at Walter-Janka-Straße and ends before Hermersdorfer Straße.

The work will be carried out under full road closure. The diversion will be via Hermersdorfer Straße / Kleinolbersdorfer Straße / Georgistraße. Work will begin with the first section, which is scheduled for completion in April 2015. For the full closure of the second section from April 2015, a shuttle service will be set up for CVAG bus route 56 between the Hermersdorfer Straße stop and the Am Erlenwald stop (via the Kleinolbersdorf junction and M.-Brandt-Straße stops). Regionalverkehr Erzgebirge RVE will serve the Am Erlenwald and "Goldener Hahn" stops. The entire project should be completed by December 2015.

After completion, the old Zschopauer Straße will still be passable for everyone in both directions between Walter-Janka-Straße and the Einsiedel junction (Goldener Hahn). The connections to Gornauer Straße and W.-Janka-Straße will remain open.

The company Gunter Hüttner GmbH und Co KG was commissioned with the construction work. The construction volume amounts to approx. 3 million euros. The reconstruction of the old Zschopauer Straße is being subsidised as part of the new construction of the B174.
