Reconstruction of the north and south stands begins

The complete remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße is still on schedule. Mayor Barbara Ludwig informed the Planning, Building and Environment Committee about this today as scheduled.
The complete demolition of the railway depot next to the stadium is nearing completion. The foundations for the north and south stands have already been laid and the reconstruction of both sides of the stadium has begun. Work has also begun on laying the foundations and formwork for two floodlight masts on the south stand facing Heinrich-Schütz-Straße in preparation for the planned realisation. Partial building permits have now been issued for the dismantling of the north and south stands, for the dismantling of the southern section of the west stand and the associated adaptation to match operations, as well as for tree felling work. Partial building permits have also been issued for foundation work on the south stand, for ground improvement and foundation laying as well as for installations under the grandstand structure of the north and south stands.
The costs to date amount to around 3.8 million euros. In addition to the costs reported in the previous committees, these include the ancillary construction costs to date, further payments on account, including for the partial demolition of the former railway depot, demolition, earthworks and foundations for the south and north stands.
The rest of the process: The north and south stands will be constructed in parallel as far as possible. Demolition of the main stand will also begin shortly afterwards. Once the north and south stands have been opened to spectators, the east stand will be demolished in stages and the side main stand will be completed. When the side main stand goes into operation, the east stand and the main building, which will be the last to go into operation, will be extended.
A total of ten companies involved in the stadium construction were commissioned by the general contractor. Five of these are based in and around Chemnitz, three companies come from Saxony and one from Thuringia. One supra-regional company was also commissioned.

The remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße is to take place without interrupting match operations and with a maximum budget of 25 million euros. A modern arena with 15,000 seats is planned, of which approx. 9,000 seats and 6,000 standing places, including a family block and barrier-free seats. The client is the city of Chemnitz.
