Reception for Chemnitz rubble women
Invitation for Saturday, 28 February 2015, 3 p.m., Chemnitzer Hof - entry in the city's Golden Book
In the run-up to the Chemnitz Peace Day, the city of Chemnitz is inviting women from the rubble to a reception at the Chemnitzer Hof. In the year of the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the event commemorates the fate of the Trümmerfrauen. Media representatives are welcome to attend on Saturday, 28 February 2015 at 3 pm.
More than 100 participants have been invited, including 23 women who helped to clear the destruction of the war as "Trümmerfrauen". Around 70 women and men experienced working in the rubble as children and helped out themselves when their mothers were out and about in the city as rubble women.
Someone who is very familiar with the history of the city of Chemnitz has prepared a picture presentation for the reception. Tower keeper Stefan Weber will vividly describe the old and new Chemnitz. After having coffee together, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will honour the former Trümmerfrauen by inscribing them in the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz.
The Trümmerfrauen are honoured at regular intervals for their work and help in rebuilding the city, most recently on 4 March 2012.
