Realisation of the international public art project GEGENWARTEN / PRESENCES. Art City of Chemnitz in summer 2020 in Chemnitz
Invitation to the press conference: Tuesday, 3 December 2019, 2 p.m., City Hall, Room 118
GEGENWARTEN / PRESENCES. Kunst Stadt Chemnitz is the title of the major exhibition project in public space taking place in summer 2020, which will be presented on 3 December 2019 at 2 p.m. in City Hall, Room 118.
From 21 June to 20 September 2020, Chemnitz will be the venue for an international public art project for the first time. 21 renowned artists and collectives have been invited to explore the architectural, historical and urban conditions of the city, as well as to critically discuss current socio-political issues. The exhibition, organised by the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz with General Director Dr Frédéric Bußmann, is being developed by the two guest curators Prof. Dr Florian Matzner (Munich) and Sarah Sigmund (Munich/Dresden). Together with the artists and collectives, they will visualise different thematic focal points of the city of Chemnitz in a tour; the topics of economies and ecologies, spaces and transformations, movements and migrations, democracies and regressions as well as working environments and living spaces will play an important role.
The exhibition project is being organised with significant support from the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
The following people will be available for the press conference:
- Barbara Ludwig, Mayor of the City of Chemnitz
- Prof. Dr Florian Matzner, curator
