Reading and discussion on the water emergency in Germany
Adult education centre: Author Uwe Ritzer as a guest at the TIETZ on 16 November from 7 pm
On Thursday, 16 November, from 7 to 8.30 pm, author Uwe Ritzer will be reading from his latest book "Zwischen Dürre und Flut. Germany before the water emergency: What needs to happen now". Afterwards, he would like to talk to the audience about the consequences of prolonged record temperatures or flood events and about securing the water supply.

In his book, the investigative journalist examines how the consequences of climate change are also having an impact on groundwater and drinking water supplies in Germany. His questions include: Where does our drinking water come from? What factors influence water scarcity in Germany? Are we heading towards a water crisis as a result of advancing climate change? Are there solutions to avoid this threat?
The last summer drought was not so long ago and groundwater levels are falling even in Germany, which is actually rich in water. Author Uwe Ritzer therefore warns that Germany is drying out. In his research "Between Drought and Flood", he shows how bad the water supply is in some regions of Germany, where a lot of water is needed and what can be done to prevent water shortages. His book paints a picture of a country in acute climate change.
The event is a co-operation between Weiterdenken - Heinrich Böll Foundation Saxony and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
