"Reading against violence" project in the city library

Press invitation to the readings by Daniel Bielenstein alias Jakob M. Leonhardt

The Reading against Violence project is taking place for the 18th time at Chemnitz City Library from 5 to 7 November. This time, the Hamburg author Daniel Bielenstein will be a guest. He has published several books for children and young people, some under the pseudonym Jakob M. Leonhardt. He will be reading from his Kings of Chaos series at a total of five events and will be available for a discussion with the children afterwards. The readings will take place in the central library and the district libraries. A total of eleven Chemnitz school classes have been invited. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to the readings.

Daniel Bielenstein not only awakens a love of reading with a great deal of humour, but also takes a fresh look at everyday school life, which is deliberately exaggerated, in order to focus on the actual problem. Justus, the self-proclaimed prankster, meets Abdi, the King of School, at his new school. With crude remarks and even cruder pranks, the two kings of chaos, who can probably be found in a similar way in every school playground, battle it out for the title of King of School. The language is deliberately colloquial and swear words are often used between the two opponents.

"Reading against violence": Whether verbal or non-verbal violence, online or in real life - violence among children and young people is omnipresent. The aim of the project is to get children and young people talking about a story and to scrutinise various phenomena of violence. Since 2002, the project has regularly organised readings by children's and young people's authors. The topics are varied, but always focus on violence between children and young people.

The project was initiated by the association Förderer der Stadtbibliothek Chemnitz e. V. and is supported by the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP).
