"Reading against violence" in the city library
Author readings and workshops for school classes from 2 to 4 November
From Tuesday to Thursday, 2 to 4 November, the Chemnitz City Library will be focusing for the 20th time on a book for young people that deals with violence against and among young people. The project always focuses on a different facet of violence. This year, Susanne Fülscher is presenting her book "I don't want that!". In it, the Berlin-based author addresses the topic of sexual harassment in everyday school life. Afterwards, school classes can look forward to workshops and an obstacle course organised by Wildwasser e.V. - Verein gegen sexualisierte Gewalt in the central library.
The "Reading against violence" project has been running at Chemnitz City Library since 2002, with readings by children's and young people's authors focussing on different aspects of this constantly topical issue. They highlight the causes and correlations and thus offer the opportunity to actively deal with the problem in class.
The association Wildwasser Chemnitz, Erzgebirge und Umland e.V. campaigns against sexualised violence and for sexual self-determination. It is a point of contact for those affected and supports children and young people in developing into self-confident personalities.
The project was initiated by the association Förderer der Stadtbibliothek Chemnitz e.V. and is funded by the Local Action Plan for Tolerance and Democracy against Violence, Right-Wing Extremism and Xenophobia of the City of Chemnitz (LAP).
