The Chemnitz Valley Viaduct has been saved: The Federal Railway Authority published the planning approval decision for the so-called Chemnitz railway arch today. According to the decision, Deutsche Bahn has been instructed to preserve the important industrial monument and to submit new plans for its renovation by 2019.

Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "This means that the unique testimony to industrial history will be preserved and modernised in such a way that its function will be maintained in the future. This is a smart decision and a good day for Chemnitz!

I would like to expressly thank the citizens' initiative, which fought fearlessly for the industrial monument and encouraged the city administration to rethink and join the fight. This is also to their credit today and shows what civic engagement can achieve."
