Racism in the USA

The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to an online lecture on the topic of racism in the USA on Monday, 22 February from 7.30 to 9 pm. Michael Hochgeschwender, Professor of North American Cultural History, will shed light on the historical roots of this complex phenomenon. He will also ask what systemic racism means in concrete terms in the USA today, despite all the successes of the civil rights movements.

Racism in its many forms, whether towards blacks, Jews, Irish or Asians, is generally regarded as the original sin of democracy in the United States.
Michael Hochgeschwender is a professor at the LMU Munich. He is one of the best experts on US history and the author of numerous books.
This event is part of the series "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme" as a cooperation between the VHS Chemnitz and the adult education centres in the Erding and SüdOst districts of Munich as well as acatech.
