Purchase of parcels of land for the Südlicher Sonnenberg primary school
At its meeting today, the city council decided to purchase two plots of land for the construction of a primary school on the southern Sonnenberg. Both are owned by Sächsische Wohnungsgenossenschaft Chemnitz eG and are located between Jakobstraße, Martinstraße and Tschaikowskistraße. The purchase price is 550,000 euros.
It is necessary to acquire the two parcels of land in order to ensure the necessary after-school care facilities for the primary school and to build a sports hall. The planned project will expand and strengthen the existing square with the "KiFaZ" children's and family centre and the "Bunten Gärten" sports and leisure areas.

From the 2021/2022 school year, a two-form entry primary school will open at the Jakobstraße/Martinstraße site. The plan is to start building the school and sports hall in summer 2020. The costs for the school and sports hall total 18.5 million euros.
