Public transport acceleration on the connection between the central station and the main railway station goes into operation

Further building block in the EU funding programme for the urban traffic management system completed

The connection between the central bus stop and the main railway station along Straße der Nationen plays an important role in the public transport network of the city of Chemnitz and will become even more important as a result of the expansion of the Chemnitz model. Measures to speed up public transport at the traffic lights at Straße der Nationen/Brückenstraße, Straße der Nationen/Carolastraße and Bahnhof-/Carolastraße will therefore help to optimise this connection.

The construction work on the three traffic lights involved will be completed tomorrow, Wednesday, when the traffic lights at Straße der Nationen/Carolastraße go into operation.

The measures implemented on Straße der Nationen, as well as the ongoing work on Leipziger Straße, are an essential part of the EU funding programme to expand the urban traffic management system, which the city of Chemnitz has been implementing since 2012 and will complete in summer 2015. The European Union is providing grants totalling €2.65 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the overall project, which has an estimated budget of €3.8 million.

The traffic light systems were realised by the companies Stührenberg Gera (traffic light system Bahnhof-/Carolastraße) and Siemens Erfurt (traffic light systems Straße der Nationen/Brückenstraße and Straße der Nationen/Carolastraße). The construction costs for this totalled 119,000 euros.
