The expansion and electrification of the Chemnitz Leipzig line continue to be of great importance for the Chemnitz region. Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig has therefore invited the Group Representative of Deutsche Bahn AG, Eckart Fricke, and the State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport, Martin Dulig, as well as the long-distance rail link initiative to the City Council Chamber of Chemnitz City Hall next Wednesday, 10 July 2019 at 10 a.m.. The event is open to the public and Chemnitz residents are cordially invited to attend.
Thanks to a great deal of commitment, this project was included in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan. A planning agreement has since been signed by Deutsche Bahn and the Saxon State Ministry in September 2018. Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "At this meeting, the railway company and the ministry will present the current planning status and timetable and at the same time answer questions from interested citizens. A good connection to Chemnitz is of the utmost interest to the city."
The Chemnitz long-distance railway connection initiative includes representatives from politics, business, culture and sport from the entire region. It has been regularly campaigning for improvements to the economic region's rail connections since 2012.
