Pub mile starts - Innere Klosterstraße further upgraded

The first pubs on the new pub mile - including a Greek restaurant, a salad bar, a café and a burger restaurant - will open in the near future. The youngest restaurateurs will present themselves and their concepts for the first time at the Hat Festival from 25 to 27 May. Further catering establishments will follow in the coming months. In the future, a total of twelve gastronomic outlets on around 2,500 square metres in Innere Klosterstraße will offer a diverse and varied range of cuisine.

Innere Klosterstraße is being further upgraded. For example, the new water feature on Jakobikirchplatz has been in operation since today. The ten fountains bubble daily between 9am and 10pm. In the evening, they are also illuminated in colour. The two platforms at the entrance to Innere Klosterstraße have also been thoroughly renovated in recent months and equipped with a new lighting concept and can be used by the neighbouring restaurants for catering. Both construction measures together cost around 550,000 euros.

The marketing of the city centre and the expansion of the location by retail initiatives such as Galerie Roter Turm, Rathauspassagen and Rosenhof is carried out by CWE and now under the umbrella brand "ChemnitzCity". The new brand is intended to make the city centre even more attractive for visitors, for example by coordinating events, creating new event formats and establishing new collaborations between retailers and businesses, hotels and restaurants.

The umbrella brand website www.chemnitzcity.de was launched in December 2017 . The site has already received almost 100,000 hits since its launch. The site provides users with all the information they need about the various shopping opportunities, restaurants and events in Chemnitz city centre.

As part of the change in marketing, the IG Innenstadt has been dissolved. In future, the members will be involved in the "ChemnitzCity" project, for which a so-called brand council will be founded in June.

In addition to marketing, the establishment of free Wi-Fi is another project to increase the attractiveness of the city centre. The CWE is working together with GGG and "eins energie in Sachsen" to achieve this. The pilot project - free Wi-Fi in Innere Klosterstraße - is expected to be available from Whitsun. Eight points have been installed on the façades along the street for this purpose.

As a result of a public survey entitled "Stadtbummel 2025", many Chemnitz residents expressed a desire for more restaurants in the city centre, preferably on Innere Klosterstraße, as well as a higher quality of stay. The city of Chemnitz and GGG then jointly developed a concept for a gastro mile on Innere Klosterstraße, which was presented in May 2017.
