Provision of funds for the pedestrian subway from the main railway station to Dresdner Strasse

At its meeting today, the city council decided to increase the cost budget for the extension of the pedestrian subway from the main railway station to Dresdner Straße by €770,000 for unavoidable additional payments. This increase is necessary for the awarding of the tender result as an urgent need for action.

The additional funding requirement results from specific requirements of Deutsche Bahn AG and increased ancillary construction costs. No bids were received in the first tender in summer 2018. Cancelling and repeating this second tender would not produce a better result, but would lead to a considerable delay, meaning that the timeline until 31 December 2020 (end of the funding period for the construction project) could not be met.

The pedestrian subway is also a prerequisite for further development in the area surrounding the main railway station. This includes the new construction of the long-distance bus terminal, the relocation of the bus station to the station forecourt and the further implementation of the adopted local transport plan.

The current cost forecast (including a five per cent reserve) is just under 4.1 million euros; this includes around 2.2 million euros in subsidies.
