Promotion of measures from the Socio-Cultural Youth Fund

More than 20 socio-cultural projects are being funded with around 45,000 euros

At its meeting on 19 April, the Culture Committee approved the funding of 26 projects from the city of Chemnitz for 2018. The focus of the funded projects is in the socio-cultural field - the aim is to promote cross-disciplinary, cross-thematic and cross-generational cultural practice with the broad participation of citizens. Thanks to their co-operation in international exchange, projects that have already received funding have been able to focus on innovative content.

The allocation of the funding of around 45,000 euros was discussed by a panel of experts, headed by the City of Chemnitz's cultural department and consisting primarily of representatives from various youth and cultural organisations, experts from the cultural advisory board and the Office for Youth and Family Affairs. The majority of the Culture Committee voted in favour of the working group's proposals.

The projects in which young people can engage in artistic and creative activities and actively participate in the development, realisation and follow-up were particularly popular. Here are some examples of the funded projects:

  • In the "Shadow Theatre" workshop, young people from Tortuga e.V. learn how to work with shadows and light and how to design puppets, figures and backdrops.
  • The "Hip Hop" workshop by Tomy Weber and the graffiti and slackline workshops focus in particular on the participation of unaccompanied refugee minors together with young people from non-migrant backgrounds.
  • The seven-month "URBAN ART- Street Art" workshop, organised by Arthur e.V., enables girls and young women to use the medium of street art and graffiti to take a stand on issues relevant to their lives.
  • The international project "Nia Domo - 5 years" organised by the AJZ opens up new perspectives on the design and use of the permaculture garden through an excursion to the Czech partner association and the Earthship project in Sazava.
  • The "Do it yourself festival" project organised by the Odradek reading café enables participants to make their own everyday objects and utensils.
  • At the "Principle of the Rock" workshop organised by Süder e.V., musical instruments are also built together from everyday objects.

In view of Chemnitz's bid to become European Capital of Culture 2025, two projects are focussing on urban renewal:

  • The workshop organised by the Chemnitzer Filmwerkstatt association will produce animated interviews on current affairs, politics and culture in Chemnitz, which will be depicted in animated film using various techniques.
  • The competition for the most innovative signpost in the project "QUER BEET meets arts - artistic social space development" by the Klinke e. V. association enables young people to present their favourite places in the Bernsdorf district and the Luther quarter in an artistic way.

Please note:

A remaining amount of €4,886 is still available in the funding pot for 2018. Applications can still be submitted spontaneously.
