Projects to strengthen democracy are supported
As the coordination office for the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP) informs, the city of Chemnitz and the federal programme "Living Democracy" support associations and institutions that are involved in a variety of socio-political activities. In 2017, 39 projects received funding to realise their project ideas. The project list is attached. The LAP is a municipal strategy for strengthening democracy and acceptance of democratic values, preventing violence, confronting xenophobia, radicalisation and ideological violence.
It supports individuals, associations and institutions that are committed to promoting democracy. Examples include the association Gedenkort Kaßberg e.V., whose event "Piratensender gegen Stalin" ("Pirate radio against Stalin") is supported.
Christopher Street Day, which promotes a tolerant approach to alternative lifestyles, is also supported. Funding is focussed on the Sonnenberg district. District management, social workers at the AJZ and the AWO fan project are supported in preserving Sonnenberg's colourful diversity and peacefully confronting the appropriation strategies of autonomous nationalists.
The ASA-FF e.V. association will also receive a grant. The success of the theatre meeting on the subject of the NSU, right-wing extremist and right-wing populist support networks has contributed to the great interest in continuing the project. Partners from the art, culture and creative scene in Chemnitz are also involved. The Netzwerk für Kultur- und Jugendarbeit e.V. is receiving a grant to organise the U18 election in Chemnitz. The results will be presented at the sponsored event organised by the band office under the motto "Demokratie rockt" (Democracy rocks) in September.
The Chemnitz Youth Forum is also being funded as part of the federal "Living Democracy" programme. Young people up to the age of 27 can apply to the Netzwerk für Kultur- und Jugendarbeit e.V. for project funding. Project funding is available for the realisation of young people's ideas.
