Projects in cultural education honoured
Prizes for "Daycare & Artists" and "Marketplace Culture and School"
A total of five projects from "Kita & Künstler" and "Marktplatz Kultur und Schule" were awarded prizes at the most recent Jour Fixe der Kulturellen Bildung at the Neue Sächsische Galerie. Both calls for projects aim to promote sustainable cooperation between daycare centres and educational institutions, representatives of cultural institutions, associations and independent artists. Such collaborations between education and culture give pupils the opportunity to engage with topics from the field of cultural education in addition to the curriculum.
"Daycare centres & artists"
This year's "Kita & Künstler" project call was entitled "Experiencing the city of Chemnitz through art and aesthetics". The artistic-educational cooperation projects are intended to strengthen the artistic-aesthetic education of children in daycare centres. Three projects were honoured this year:
- "Fuchs Filou sucht den Schatz in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf", a cooperation project between the "Filou" daycare centre and the artist Anke Kampe. Based on places they have discovered themselves and with artistic and educational guidance, children design a travel guide for the Hilbersdorf district.
- In cooperation with Stefanie Dittmann, children from the "Bildungsinsel" daycare centre are creating a children's art calendar "On the trail of the Capital of Culture 2025". The calendar will include twelve stories about special places in Chemnitz.
- In cooperation with Lukas Spreer, the "Fridolin" daycare centre will artistically depict the children's impressions of their living environment on outdoor privacy screens in the project "We paint Chemnitz and the world as we like it".
The award was decided by a jury made up of Katrin Franz (Head of Cultural Management/Cultural Strategy of the City of Chemnitz), Gabi Reinhardt (director, performer and author), Sylvia Lange-Rathaj (Specialist Advisor for Child Day Care Centres and Child Day Care of the City of Chemnitz) and Ophelia Euler (Cultural Education Contact Point of the City of Chemnitz).
"Marketplace culture and school"
Two award-winning projects emerged from this year's "Marketplace Culture and Schools" event.
- The "Schimpfgestalten" project under the project management of Almut Fehrmann (1. Chemnitzer Autorenverein e. V.) and Dr Thomas Grieser (Berufliches Schulzentrum für Wirtschaft I) deals with clichés and stereotypes and their effects in society.
- The Reichenbrand secondary school is planning the project "Rethinking urban space - your space in the city" in cooperation with Katja Glänzel (visual artist), Isabell Richter (photographer) and Andrea Alter (landscape architect). Under the guidance of the mentors, pupils develop creative ideas for the design of urban spaces using artistic means from their various fields.
The jury was made up of Katrin Franz (Head of Cultural Management/Cultural Strategy of the City of Chemnitz), Ophelia Euler (Cultural Education Contact Centre of the City of Chemnitz) and Heike Paul (Head of the State Office for Schools and Education).
