Programme for the winter semester online from Monday

Adult education centre: Online start for courses from September 2022

On Monday, 20 June at 10 a.m., Chemnitz Adult Education Centre will put the new programme for the 2022 winter semester online. All courses from 12 September 2022 to 3 March 2023 can be searched, found and booked at www.vhs-chemnitz.de.

With 670 courses from six subject areas, the selection has grown once again. As in previous semesters, Chemnitz Adult Education Centre will continue to focus on flexible formats in the coming autumn and winter: Courses will take place both on site at the adult education centre and online. In addition, alternating courses will be offered, which can take place both in the real and virtual classroom, depending on requirements. Hybrid courses - i.e. face-to-face classes that can also be attended online regardless of location - are also increasingly being added to the adult education centre's repertoire following a very successful test phase and not least due to high demand.

The semester motto "Holistic learning" is the programme. After all, learning is not just about acquiring knowledge and skills, but about broadening horizons, changing perspectives, understanding connections, experiencing inspiration and receiving impulses. Last but not least, learning is always a challenge to overcome barriers and an opportunity to grow and progress through tasks and exercises.

In this area of tension, the adult education centre is constantly working to offer an up-to-date, interesting, varied and substantial course programme with added value.
Of great importance here is the relevance to contemporary issues: What is the interaction between the individual and society? To what extent can individuals help to shape developments? What competences can each person use to equip themselves physically and mentally for such tasks? In order to find answers and solutions, the adult education centre offers suitable courses across all subject areas.

Sustainable living - background information and ideas for everyday life

An example of the holistic approach is the "Living sustainably" programme, which aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of political and social challenges. In particular, the new series on raw material and supply security invites you to understand the background to current global developments and derive practical solutions for everyday life. Topics such as energy supply and the scarcity of raw materials and consequently of food and consumer goods are analysed in theory and practice. Renowned scientists from German universities as well as representatives from institutions such as the consumer advice centre or the ASR guarantee professional expertise.

Mindful and enjoyable - stay agile with the adult education centre

A healthy lifestyle with consideration for oneself, others and the environment is becoming increasingly desirable for many people. The adult education centre's health and ecological education programmes can help you achieve this. A total of 42 exercise and 39 relaxation courses ensure a healthy physical and mental balance. New to the programme are Yoga Nidra, a technique for deep relaxation, and Vini Yoga, a particularly gentle and balanced form of exercise. The health walk, which combines experiencing nature with movement and simple exercises, is also making its debut. The VHS offers more than 20 cookery courses using local and international ingredients for healthy and enjoyable refreshment.

Getting ahead in the world - with VHS foreign language courses

With the right language skills, everyone can get on and get ahead. That's why the VHS is offering an even greater variety of foreign languages in the 2022 winter semester. Czech, Norwegian, Irish Gaelic and Brazilian Portuguese are back in the programme.
New additions include Korean, Welsh and the official Israeli language Ivrit (Modern Hebrew). A total of 20 languages are waiting to be explored in around 120 courses. The VHS team is happy to expand the range on request.

As always, it is advisable to secure a place on your favourite course now. Even if something comes up at short notice, registered participants can remain relaxed - cancellations can be made free of charge up to six working days before the start of the course.
And: those who register early also help to make the course itself possible. Events for which fewer than eight participants register by the deadline will unfortunately have to be cancelled.

The VHS also announces the latest news on its Facebook page www.facebook.com/vhsChemnitz.
