On Monday, 8 December, Chemnitz Adult Education Centre will put the course and event programme for the 2026 summer semester online. From 10 a.m., all courses offered from 9 March 2026 can be searched for and booked at www.vhs-chemnitz.de. There are currently more than 540 courses to choose from. The programme is constantly updated and new events and courses are added.
Focus on health - many courses subsidised by health insurance companies
Due to the high demand, the health programme has been significantly expanded. More than 50 courses for more exercise in everyday life are offered, many of which are subsidised by statutory health insurance companies. These include Pilates, as well as strengthening fitness and the troubled back. A new addition to the relaxation and well-being programme is a yoga course in English, which is aimed at English speakers and those interested in the language.
Family and nature - new impulses in the leisure sector
The new programmes "Child & Dog", "Dog Basics" and "Getting a dog - but the right way" highlight how a dog can enrich everyday family life and what needs to be considered. They are part of an extended programme for the whole family: In addition to forest experiences or herbal walks for grandparents and grandchildren as well as talks on women's health, the programme includes singing bowl journeys for families or events on healthy eating.
Education, encounters and dialogue - a key aim of the semester
Discovering knowledge and engaging in dialogue with one another - this goal runs through the entire programme of the adult education centre. This includes historical experiences and reflecting on political responsibility, for example during a visit to the Hoheneck memorial site, the Kaßberg prison learning and memorial site or on a day trip to the Bautzen memorial site, which is new to the programme.
In addition, from 30 March to 24 April 2026, the Evangelical Forum Chemnitz and the adult education centre will be showing the exhibition "Together we are unbearable" about independent women's movements in the GDR, accompanied by a reading. The lecture and subsequent discussion on "Freedom in difficult times" with Dr Philipp Schink on 21 May 2026 will provide a current social reference.
Country special: China - a focus with social and economic relevance
From 16 to 27 March 2026, the Adult Education Centre will be focusing on the topic of China in its "Country Special" series. The programme includes economic relations between Germany and China, the history of China, Chinese seasons, festivals and cultural traditions, as well as a look at the country's raw materials and climate policy. A "Chinese for Travellers" language course and a special tour of the Dresden Porcelain Collection will also bring people together.
Linguistic diversity: more than 100 programmes in 29 languages
More than 100 courses in 29 languages in the Adult Education Centre's programme show how language can create understanding. The new programmes include introductory courses in Afrikaans and Albanian. For working people in the city centre, the new lunchtime format "Let's lunch in English" has been launched - an informal language training course where you can simply bring your own packed lunch.
