Prof Dr Reinhard Erfurth signs the Golden Book
Honoured for his commitment to the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation
Yesterday evening, Thursday 8 September, Prof. Dr Reinhard Erfurth signed the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz. The city honoured him for his tireless efforts and extraordinary commitment to the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation. The award was presented on the occasion of the 17th Foundation Day in the town hall, which also marked the 20th anniversary of the foundation's re-establishment.
Prof Dr Reinhard Erfurth has been involved with the Johanneum Foundation for many years and is also the initiator and representative of the Johanneum Academy, a project launched within the foundation in 2009. The aim of the Johanneum Academy is to introduce socially disadvantaged children to various educational programmes, to arouse their curiosity, develop social skills and increase their self-esteem. So far, 23 project weeks have been organised, with almost 300 children and young people taking part. It is thanks to Reinhard Erfurth's commitment that numerous partners from business, health, culture and other areas of the city of Chemnitz have joined in and made their programmes available free of charge.
The Johanneum Foundation is committed to helping socially disadvantaged children and young people in Chemnitz and was re-established in 2002. However, its origins date back to 1855 and the Johanneum Foundation is the only legally independent municipal foundation in the city of Chemnitz. It supports a large number of projects every year, but also provides individual assistance in precarious life situations.
