Primary school on the southern Sonnenberg is handed over

Invitation to the press tour on 29 August, 2 pm, Jakobstraße 20

On Monday 29 August at 2 pm, Mayor Sven Schulze invites representatives of the media to take a tour of the new primary school at Jakobstraße 20, south of Sonnenberg.

A modern school building for 224 children with a two-court sports hall and outdoor facilities has been built on Jakobstraße.

The city council decided to build the school in May 2020. A barrier-free campus area is to be developed on the southern Sonnenberg, which can be a meeting point and place of exchange for children, young people and adults from the neighbourhood, but also for residents from other parts of the city and school districts. The proximity of the primary school and after-school care centre to the existing children's and family centre as well as the "Bunte Gärten" leisure and sports facilities provides the ideal conditions for actively promoting migration and inclusion without barriers.

The new primary school is located in school district IV and will welcome the first ABC pupils from the 2023/24 school year. In the current school year, pupils from Ukraine, who are currently in Chemnitz as refugees fleeing the war, will initially be taught. This includes four primary school classes and four classes with secondary school pupils.
