Wednesday, 7 May

The City of Chemnitz will host the 59th Conference of Municipal Press Officers of the Association of German Cities from 7 to 9 May at Chemnitz City Hall.

On the opening evening, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig invites the participants to a meeting in the town hall and presents the industrial city of Chemnitz in transition under the motto "Work - Prosperity - Beauty".

Mayor Barbara Ludwig attends the inauguration of Police Councillor Peter Körting as the new head of the Chemnitz Federal Police Inspectorate.

Residents' meeting for the citizens of the Chemnitz North-East urban area with the districts of Sonnenberg, Hilbersdorf and Ebersdorf (PM 248 from 2 May 2014).

This year's Saxon Mozart Festival, held from 9 to 25 May under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz, has the motto "Mozart directly!". The celebrity soloist and conductor of the opening concert in Chemnitz, recorded by MDR Figaro, is Albrecht Mayer, oboist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Information: www.mozart-sachsen.de

Sunday, 11 May

The traditional Chemnitz city run will take place for the 11th time in 2014 under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz. 2,500 runners are expected on the circuit through the city centre. The start and finish are on Brückenstraße.

Time and place: Start at 8.45 am, Brückenstraße.

Start of the 35th Erzgebirgs-Rundfahrt, which is organised by the cycling section of the Chemnitz Police Sports Club under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz. The cycling classic covers a distance of 155 kilometres. The award ceremony will take place at 2.30 pm in the festival garden of the Einsiedler Brauhaus.

New edition of "Viva la musica!", the joint concert project of the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra and Chemnitz Municipal Music School (PM 233 from 29 April 2014).
