The topic of the live discussion will be the opportunities and potential of a bid for the title of "European Capital of Culture". Other guests are expected to be Eva-Maria Stange, Minister of State for Science and the Arts, Annekatrin Klepsch, Dresden's Mayor of Culture, and Fritz Pleitgen.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig gives the starting signal for the WiC company run. Around 8,000 runners set off on a 4.8 kilometre circuit, including numerous employees of the city administration.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig takes part in the inauguration of the newly renovated building at the Montessori School.

The City of Chemnitz is presenting itself today and tomorrow at the 5th Summer Festival at the Saxon Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony in Prague. Minister of State Dr Fritz Jaeckel and Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will open the festival. The city of Chemnitz will present itself with live music, audio and video art by Raster Noton, works of art by Chemnitz artists and various performances.
There will also be information about the bid to become European Capital of Culture, the city's 875th anniversary in 2018, business and science as well as tourist attractions.
