Mayor Miko Runkel opens the Chemnitz Construction Fair on behalf of Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig. It takes place until 5 February. It is regarded as the largest exhibition in central and south-west Saxony. More than 320 exhibitors present their products and services from the fields of construction, building materials and elements, trades, building technology and more.

"Poland is not yet lost" has its premiere: Jürgen Hofmann's black comedy is based on the 1942 film "To be or not to be" by Ernst Lubitsch. The Hungarian playwright Melchior Lengyel wrote the screenplay. The Polish national anthem begins with "Poland is not yet lost", so Hofmann's politically accentuated adaptation is also a reference to the Polish resistance against the Nazis.
