Press conference on the topic of foster families
Invitation for journalists: on 11 April, 10 a.m., event hall, TIETZ
On Thursday, 11 April at 10 a.m., representatives of the media are invited to a press conference on the topic of foster parents and foster children in the event hall of the TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20.
Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky, the deputy head of the Youth Welfare Office, Heike Steege, and representatives of the City of Chemnitz's foster child service will provide information about the different types of fostering and the requirements that people must fulfil in order to become a foster father or foster mother. Foster parents will also be present to talk about their everyday lives.
Background:
There are currently 289 foster children living in 238 foster families in Chemnitz (as of March 2024). Ten children are currently waiting for a suitable foster family. In addition, there are children who live in residential groups but would be better off in a foster family - if one existed. Foster parents are therefore always being sought. The requirements are complex and are discussed individually with each family wishing to take in a foster child. There is no general age limit for permanent fostering; single people can also become foster mums or foster dads. In full-time foster care, a foster family receives a lump sum per foster child.
