Premium cycle path: work begins on further construction phase
Start from Monday between Rudolf-Krahl-Straße and Rottluffer Straße
From Monday, 17 January, construction work will begin on construction section 3.0 on the former railway line between the districts of Altendorf and Rottluff. In the area from Rudolf-Krahl-Straße to Kalkstraße (at the level of the Rottluffer Straße flood retention basin)*, the conversion of the route into a premium cycle path from Wüstenbrand to Küchwald will begin. A four metre wide cycle path connection will be created on this section.
Before the asphalt surface can be laid on the approximately 1.4-kilometre stretch, the construction site will first be cleared and cleared of vegetation and trees from next week. A temporary site access road will be created from the Gutsweg.
For the new cycle path, two bridges over the Pleißenbach will be repaired and the bridge over Limbacher Straße will be renovated. In this context, traffic restrictions around Limbacher Straße are to be expected during the 2022 summer holidays.
In addition to the construction site access road on Gutsweg, three further connecting roads will be built from Limbacher Straße and Rottluffer Straße into the cycle path construction area. The cycle path will then be accessible from the public transport network via these connections at Wechselburger Straße and Pleißeweg and before the bridge structure over Limbacher Straße.
The section of the cycle path is due to be completed and put into operation in December 2022. A total of around 2.4 million euros has been budgeted for this construction section. Krause & Co Hoch-, Tief- und Anlagenbau GmbH from Neukirchen has been commissioned with the construction work. The construction project is being co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
At the same time, the city of Chemnitz is preparing the plans for the subsequent construction section to the west as far as Riedstraße, including the bridge over Kalkstraße. The construction site is already being cleared and trees felled in this area.
