Premium cycle path is planted with trees and shrubs
Start of planting work below Kalkstraße from next week
Planting work on the Küchwald-Wüstenbrand premium cycle path below Kalkstraße (construction phase 2.1) will begin in the week commencing 27 March. The greening work is expected to last until the end of May 2023.
This involves around 200 small shrubs and 690 woody plants, some of which will be supplied in pots and some with bales and then planted in jute mats. Four deciduous trees will also be planted in the ground. A certified ruderal meadow mixture (perennials, herbs and grasses) will also be sown over an area of around 2100 square metres.
In addition, two birdhouses and six bat boxes will be installed, and three cairns will be built for reptiles.
This work involves ecological greening and compensatory measures in the landscape associated with the construction of the cycle path. This also includes the removal of approx. 355 square metres of brambles, for which a special permit has been granted until the end of March. The company Grünbau Bad Schlema GmbH was commissioned with the work.
The construction costs amount to approx. 75,700 euros, 90 per cent of which are being funded by the Free State of Saxony as part of the municipal road and bridge construction programme.
In addition, there is the completion and development maintenance until the end of 2024, which costs around 10,000 euros per year.
