Pre-Christmas greetings between Chemnitz and Volgograd
The pre-Christmas idea to exchange home-made Christmas decorations came to Chemnitz from the Russian twin city of Volgograd: the wish of Volgograd girls and boys who were enthusiastic about Christmas and handicrafts was announced by email from the city administration. The wonderful project was immediately realised in both twin cities with a lot of imagination: In Volgograd, girls and boys from 1st and 2nd school classes got to work. Made from fabric and decorated with embroidery and braid, they created, for example, the typical Matryoshka dolls, a heart, a boot and a Christmas tree, which now adorn the Chemnitz Christmas tree in the entrance area of the town hall at Markt 1 (photo).
In Chemnitz, pupils from the Annen secondary school took part in the Christmas tree decoration campaign for the twin city and made a wide variety of paper and straw stars, among other things. The parcel from Chemnitz was sent by post via the town twinning department in the mayor's office and has now arrived at the town hall in the twin city of Volgograd: Here, the Christmas crafts made by the Chemnitz pupils also decorate the Christmas tree in the town hall.
