Practical test of bio-based plastics

The Environmental Centre of the City of Chemnitz invites interested parties to Henriettenstraße 5 on Wednesday, 6 June at 5 p.m. on the topic of "Bio-based plastics and their recycling".
The speakers will be Dipl.-Chem. Tobias Hartmann (Chair of Lightweight Structures and Plastics Processing, Institute of Lightweight Structures, Chemnitz University of Technology) and Dipl.-Ing. Jasmin Bauer (KNOTEN WEIMAR. Internationale Transferstelle Umwelttechnologien GmbH, Institute at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar).
The lecture section will cover the production and use of bio-based plastics and their integration into the recycling practice of municipal waste management and utilisation in the sense of the circular economy. In the discussion part, aspects of sustainability, recycling of recyclable materials and municipal options for action can be debated.
Background
With the new Packaging Act, which came into force on 1 January 2019, the Federal Council is supporting a sustainable circular economy. The extension of the mandatory deposit, incentives for ecological packaging and the increase in recycling quotas will appeal to consumers, producers and disposal companies. Increasing demand for bio-based plastics also requires practical, sustainable recycling. The research results presented on this evening show how this can be achieved.
