Practical autism lessons from someone who should know
City Library: Peter Schmidt reads on 10 September, 6.30 pm, TIETZ
On Saturday, 10 September at 6.30 pm, the city library invites you to a reading and discussion with Peter Schmidt in the TIETZ event hall. The author will be reading from his latest book "Aus dem Rahmen gefallen - eine praktische Autismuskunde".

Peter Schmidt, who has Asperger's autism himself and is a highly gifted geophysicist, will be presenting stories and anecdotes from his life under the motto of his latest book "Aus dem Rahmen gefallen - eine praktische Autismuskunde". He will read chapters from his works "Ein Kaktus zum Valentinstag", "Der Junge vom Saturn" and "Kein Anschluss unter diesem Kollegen". These illustrate autistic perception and its effects in school, work, relationships and everyday life. In this way, it is made clear in an entertaining and factual way what inclusion in practice can look like.

The author
Dr Peter Schmidt is a qualified geophysicist, IT expert, author and speaker. After starting his career as a scientist, he moved to the IT department of a large pharmaceutical company almost 25 years ago. Since then, he has worked there in various roles, first as a programmer, then as a project and system manager and currently as an international coordinator for IT projects specialising in SAP software. Schmidt is now 56 years old. He married in 1993 and has two children. It was only at the age of 41 that he discovered, without looking for it, that he was autistic. When asked by medical specialists whether this was true, he was told that his autism in the form of Asperger's syndrome was classic, but that what he had done with his life was completely atypical.
He has been giving talks on autism since 2008. In 2012, he made his debut with his autobiography "A Cactus for Valentine's Day". The book about his view of love with autism reached number 19 on the SPIEGEL bestseller list. This was followed in 2013 by "Der Junge vom Saturn" about his childhood, youth and school years, and in 2014 by "Kein Anschluss unter diesem Kollegen" about his professional life. In 2016, he published "Der Straßensammler" (The Road Collector) about his perceptions while travelling. In 2020, the author published "Aus dem Rahmen gefallen - praktische Autismuskunde von einem, der es wissen muss", his first specialist book on autism, published by Patmos-Verlag in 2020.
