Positive interim results for Chemnitz Christmas market
Since the opening on 29 November, the city centre has been transformed into an atmospheric and radiant sea of lights with many decorated wooden huts. The city of Chemnitz has drawn a positive initial conclusion: "Thanks to the good weather, noticeably more visitors have flocked to the Chemnitz Christmas market than the average in previous years," says Mayor Miko Runkel. It is not possible to determine the exact number of visitors.
The highlight of the first fortnight was the mountain parade on Saturday 30 November. Around 700 people in uniform and around 400 mountain musicians and mountain singers marched through the town centre. Thousands of visitors lined the route. Another highlight was the stop of the MDR JUMP Christmas market tour in Chemnitz last Thursday. Jonas Monar, Jessica Wahls and Selina Mour performed on the Christmas market stage to huge crowds. "After the first half of our Christmas market, we're hoping for at least as good a second half," says Miko Runkel.
The fire and rescue services did not record any incidents in connection with the Christmas market.
"From a police point of view, the Chemnitz Christmas market has been extremely quiet so far. Only three reports of theft in connection with the Christmas market had to be recorded. In one case of assault, a joint patrol of the city police and the Chemnitz police was immediately on site and was able to arrest the offender immediately," said Police Director Knut Kunze, head of the Chemnitz North-East police station.
Note: Lost property will be kept for 24 hours in the market office at the Christmas market. They will then be handed over to the city's lost property office in the Bürgerhaus am Wall.
The approximately 220 stalls on the market, Neumarkt, Rosenhof, Jakobikirchplatz, Richard-Möbius-Straße, Düsseldorfer Platz and in Innere Klosterstraße are satisfied with the first stage and are looking forward to the final spurt. Because Christmas Eve is just eleven days away. You are guaranteed to find the right gift ideas at the Christmas market. Visitors can also look forward to an atmospheric programme during the opening hours.
