Positive balance of the Chemnitz Christmas market
Christmas trees can be collected on 23 December from 4 pm
After a two-year break due to the coronavirus, the Chemnitz Christmas market once again attracted numerous visitors. On average, there were (estimated) slightly fewer visitors per day at the market, but as the Christmas market is very long this year, the visitors were spread over more days than in 2019.
With 29 calendar days, this year's Christmas market is the longest-running ever. Traditionally, it always opens on the Friday before the first day of Advent. This year, the fourth Advent fell a week before Christmas Eve, meaning that the Christmas market was also open a whole week longer.
The feedback from the traders is positive: they are delighted that the market has been so well received by visitors. However, turnover has fallen slightly compared to the last Christmas market before coronavirus (2019) due to the current inflation.
The organisers also draw a positive conclusion: the daily schedule has settled down again after the two-year break due to the coronavirus.
55 different show crafts (e.g. show turning, baking rosette waffles with GDR waffle irons) enriched the market. 44 traders offered various activities (e.g. cow milking, wish list letterbox for forwarding to Himmelpfort).
Around 50 small and large artists presented a varied Christmas programme on the Christmas market stage.
Many of the smaller Christmas trees at the Christmas market were decorated by children from 24 municipal day-care centres.
A total of around 500,000 pieces of crockery were washed.
In addition, no people went missing during opening hours this year.
Please note:
The Christmas market closes on Friday, 23 December at 8 pm. The dismantling of the 149 stalls on the market square, Neumarkt, Rosenhof, Jakobikirchplatz, Richard-Möbius-Straße, Düsseldorfer Platz and in Innere Klosterstraße will then begin.
On this day, Christmas trees from the Chemnitz Christmas market can be collected again from 4 pm. If you are interested, please contact the Christmas market office on Neumarkt behind the stage.
