Portraits of our neighbours
Museum für Naturkunde: Exhibition with children's drawings from 23 August
From Friday 23 August at 5 p.m., the Museum of Natural History will be showing the exhibition "Portraits of our neighbours" with children's drawings as part of the current special exhibition "Wild neighbours | Animals of the Ore Mountains". Around 20 Ukrainian children have drawn their favourite animals under the guidance of professional artists Viktoriia Karyzska-Katasonova and Borys Ostrovskyy.
Media representatives are cordially invited to the presentation of the "Portraits of our neighbours".
The artist and psychologist Viktoriia Karyzska-Katasonova came to Chemnitz from Ukraine in February 2022. She felt the need to do something for the traumatised children who narrowly escaped the war. She has been running regular art therapy and fairytale therapy sessions for children and young people on a voluntary basis for two years and currently leads two permanent groups. The artist Borys Ostrovskyy also gives voluntary drawing lessons for Ukrainian refugee children in the "artECK" gallery at Moritzstraße 39. The Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz has established itself as a permanent co-operation partner for creative projects and exhibitions.
The exhibition "Wild Neighbours | Animals of the Ore Mountains" shows a selection of native animals, both familiar and surprising: the agile squirrel and the majestic red deer, the tiny water bat and the impressive eagle owl, the ever-expanding raccoon and the endangered black grouse. A total of 28 vertebrate species are presented with large-format photographs, lifelike specimens and moving images from wildlife cameras in the Ore Mountains.
