Pond in Helbersdorf is desilted
One area is to be planted as a shallow water zone afterwards
From Tuesday, 2 November, the pond in Helbersdorf (behind the former turning loop, east of the Südring) will be desilted. It is currently almost completely silted up.
The pond sediments, which are largely overgrown and solidified, are to be completely removed. In addition, the inlet will be cleaned and the existing outlet, which will be protected by a basket-like grid in future, will be repaired. A small shallow water zone will be created and planted within the restored water area to give the animals living there, such as amphibians, a better opportunity to spawn.
The total costs amount to around 173,000 euros, a large proportion of which will be spent on the disposal and recycling of the pond sediment. The aim is to complete the removal of the sediment at the lowest possible temperatures by the end of February 2022. The shallow water zone will then be planted in early spring.
This means that from around mid-May 2022, a visible and tangible water area will be available again, which will hopefully also be well received by flora and fauna.
The contract was awarded to Techno-Farm & Service GmbH from Neukirchen in the Ore Mountains following a public tender. The realisation of the measure was made possible by additional funds provided by the city council in the budget for pond renovations.
