Inauguration of a special bench in front of the Red Tower on 5 February, 1.15 pm
On 5 February at 1.15 p.m., the City of Chemnitz Commissioner for the Disabled, Petra Liebetrau, and the Mayor of Chemnitz, Michael Stötzer, as well as the two artists, Frank Heim and Sven Nötzel, invite interested Chemnitz residents to take possession of the new bench in front of the Red Tower and to take a seat on it.
Representatives of the media are also cordially invited.
Benches are very popular, especially in the city centre. They are good places to stop, rest and observe, right in the centre of the action in Chemnitz. There are also many things to consider and take into account with benches. They should be easily recognisable if you can't see well (anymore), easy to reach and not too low if you have physical limitations.
Frank Heim and Sven Nötzel, both former community service workers at the ASB residential centre, have succeeded in creating an unobtrusive, artistic combination of pleasant self-care and important awareness with this bench, which is reminiscent of a wheelchair in its design. The awareness that people who require special aids need important precautions in many places, i.e. accessibility, in order to be able to reach and use urban services - just like everyone else.
